Reportable Conduct & Child Safe Standards

Safeguarding that works in practice, not just on paper.

Queensland’s Reportable Conduct Scheme and Child Safe Standards bring significant responsibilities for organisations working with children.

Understanding the requirements is one thing. Making sure your governance, reporting pathways, policies, workforce and day-to-day practice are actually ready is another.

The Nurtured Studio supports organisations to translate safeguarding obligations into clear, practical systems that people understand and can actually use.

Is your organisation ready?

Safeguarding cannot sit within one policy or one person’s role.

It needs to work across governance, leadership, workforce practice, reporting, risk management, investigations and the way children and families are heard.

I work with organisations to identify what is already working, where the gaps are, and what needs to be implemented or strengthened.

Support can be targeted to one area or extend across broader organisational readiness and implementation.

How I can support your organisation

Reportable Conduct Scheme readiness & implementation

End-to-end support to establish or strengthen organisational Reportable Conduct systems — including reporting pathways, allegation intake and triage, threshold assessment, immediate risk assessment, notification processes, investigation pathways, documentation, outcome processes, governance and ongoing oversight.

Independent Reportable Conduct investigations

Independent, trauma-informed investigation of Reportable Conduct allegations, including investigation planning, evidence gathering, interviews, analysis of evidence, findings and clear investigation reports to support organisational decision-making and regulatory requirements.

Child Safe Standards implementation & readiness

Translating the Child Safe Standards into practical governance, systems, workforce expectations and everyday practice — helping organisations move beyond having the right documents to embedding child safety across the organisation.

Safeguarding gap & compliance reviews

Reviewing current policies, procedures, reporting mechanisms, governance arrangements, documentation and practice to identify gaps, inconsistencies, emerging risks and areas requiring action.

This can provide organisations with a clear picture of where they currently stand and a practical roadmap for what needs to happen next.

Reporting mechanisms & allegation management

Developing clear, accessible pathways for employees, carers, children, families and others to raise concerns, alongside practical processes for receiving, documenting, assessing, escalating and responding to allegations.

Governance, accountability & reporting pathways

Clarifying who is responsible for what — including reporting lines, escalation pathways, decision-making authority, delegations, oversight and organisational accountability.

The aim is to ensure concerns do not become stuck between roles, teams or systems and that leaders have clear visibility over safeguarding matters.

Policies, procedures & practical resources

Developing or strengthening the documents and tools people actually need to implement safeguarding requirements in practice.

This can include policies, procedures, reporting forms, risk assessments, decision-making tools, process maps, templates, staff guidance, communication resources and child- and family-focused information.

Investigation & response frameworks

Developing consistent organisational approaches to allegation assessment, investigator allocation, immediate risk management, investigation planning, evidence and record keeping, procedural fairness, communication with workers, children and families, findings, outcomes, escalation and organisational learning.

Workforce, leadership & board training

Practical education for employees, managers, senior leaders and boards so people understand their responsibilities, what needs to be reported, how concerns should be escalated and what happens once a concern is raised.

Training can be tailored to the responsibilities of different roles rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

Implementation & ongoing compliance support

Writing the framework is only the beginning.

I can support organisations through implementation, workforce embedding, monitoring, review and continuous improvement so safeguarding systems continue to work after the initial project is complete.

From policy to practice

The goal isn’t to create another folder of policies that nobody reads.

It is to build a safeguarding system where concerns are recognised early, people know what to do, children and families are heard, leaders have confidence in their decisions, risks are responded to appropriately and the organisation can demonstrate that its responsibilities are being met.

Because child safety has to exist in practice — not just in policy.

Practical experience behind the work

My approach is informed by extensive experience across child safety, foster and kinship care, safeguarding, compliance, workforce practice and organisational quality.

I have worked across frontline, operational and leadership roles involving carer assessment and approval, safeguarding concerns, risk and compliance, placement decision-making, workforce development, family and carer support, recruitment and retention, training, and the implementation of organisational and regulatory requirements.

More recently, my work has included supporting the development and implementation of organisation-wide Reportable Conduct arrangements, including governance and accountability structures, reporting pathways, risk assessment, investigation frameworks, organisational documentation, workforce communication and implementation planning.

This experience allows me to work across both sides of safeguarding — what an organisation is required to have in place, and how those requirements actually need to work in practice.

Flexible support for your organisation

Every organisation is at a different stage.

You may already have strong safeguarding systems and need an independent review of one area. You may need support preparing for new requirements. Or you may need someone to help build and implement the framework from the ground up.

Support can include:

  • Safeguarding and compliance gap reviews

  • Reportable Conduct readiness and implementation projects

  • Child Safe Standards readiness and implementation

  • Governance and reporting pathway development

  • Policy, procedure and resource development

  • Risk assessment and allegation-management frameworks

  • Workforce, leadership and board training

  • Implementation and workforce embedding

  • Short-term safeguarding, quality or compliance project support

  • Ongoing monitoring and continuous improvement support

Engagements can be tailored to the size, structure, existing systems and needs of your organisation.
