NDIS Capacity Building
Practical, individualised support to develop everyday skills, confidence and greater independence.
Sessions are linked to the participants goals and focus on developing skills that can be practised and used in everyday life. The Nurtured Studio provides trauma-informed capacity-building support for self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants.
SUPPORT BUILT AROUND THE PERSON
Capacity building is not about doing things for someone.
It is about working alongside the participant to develop their own skills, strategies and confidence.
We begin with the participant’s goals, strengths and current barriers, then identify practical areas that can be developed over time.
WHAT CAN WE WORK ON?
Life Transitions, Leaving Care & Independent Living
Supporting young people and adults to build practical skills for periods of change, including preparing for greater independence, changes in living arrangements, leaving care, establishing routines, decision-making, self-advocacy and navigating new responsibilities.
Daily Living Skills
Organisation, time management, routines, planning and practical problem-solving.
Social Skills & Relationships
Communication, boundaries, social confidence, conflict management and self-advocacy.
Education & Training Transitions
Planning, organisation, routines, communication and practical skills for navigating education, training and changes in learning environments.
Employment Readiness
Developing practical skills for preparing for and navigating work, including resumes, interview preparation, workplace communication, expectations and work routines.
Parent & Carer Capacity Building
Working with parents and carers where their involvement directly supports the participant’s goals, including strategies around communication, regulation, routines, skill development and increasing independence.
WHAT DOES CAPACITY BUILDING ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?
Capacity building is practical.
We might develop a weekly routine, practise making an appointment, prepare for an interview, role-play a difficult conversation, create a checklist, break a larger goal into manageable steps or work through a real-life problem together.
For a young person preparing for greater independence, this might include building routines, learning to manage appointments and responsibilities, developing communication and self-advocacy skills, preparing for work or further education, or building the practical skills needed for a change in living arrangements.
The participant is actively involved throughout.
The goal is not simply to complete the task. It is to develop skills that can increasingly be used with less support.
HOW SESSIONS WORK
Each funded session is connected to an identified participant goal and the agreed capacity building support.
We begin by reviewing what has happened since the previous session and identifying what would be most useful to work on. From there we develop or practice a skill together, work through barriers and finish with a clear next step that can be applied outside the session.
Progress is documented following each session so that support remains purposeful and connected to the participant’s goals.

-
Before funded supports begin, a Service Agreement outlines the agreed supports, fees, responsibilities and service conditions.
