It is to consider whether applicants demonstrate the capacity, strengths, insight and support required to provide safe and appropriate care, while identifying vulnerabilities or risks requiring further consideration.

Assessment should support open and respectful engagement while maintaining the independence, professional curiosity and critical analysis required of the assessor.

The realities of caring can look very different once a child is living within the home.
Behaviour, trauma responses, family contact, relationships with services, placement changes, uncertainty and sustained responsibility can place significant demands on carers and their families.
The Nurtured Studio can provide independent support that helps carers understand what is happening, identify what they need, communicate concerns and develop practical ways forward.
Where appropriate, this can complement — rather than replace — the support provided by the carer’s agency or statutory service.
